- Description:
- This is a cast of a marble statue of a nude male kneeling beneath a heavy, overspread garment that is housed in Berlin. The figure looks up and to his right from under the garment and has bushy, wavy hair, a full beard, a prominent nose, and parted lips. The large piece of fabric, which he holds over his head with both hands, billows up above his head and shoulders and falls to cover his bent right leg. The figure has been interpreted as the Roman god of the sky, Caelus, with the cloth representing the heavens. The cast was made with restorations in place on the original, most notably to the garment and hair.
