This photograph shows an archaeologist drawing a scale map of the edge of what proved to be a large outdoor firepit (Feature 2) at the White Springs site. The cultural feature is the circular deposit of dark soil with a concentration of rocks at the right-hand side of the image. It proved to be much larger in size when it was investigated further. The yellowish-brown soil surrounding the feature is non-cultural subsoil. Kurt Jordan, Archaeologist
