- Description:
- In this photograph archaeologists are screening soil to recover artifacts at the White Springs site. Excavated soil is passed through hardware cloth of various sizes and all materials left in the screen are examined and artifacts removed and bagged for cleaning and study. This particular screen has 1/4-inch mesh and would capture any artifacts of that size or larger. In other instances, smaller meshes would be used (such as 1/8-inch mesh or 1 millimeter mesh).
