- Description:
- This image shows the shape and size of a possible Seneca-era post (Post Mold 122) when it was first exposed after removal of overlying plow-mixed soil. The post is near the center of the image, to the left of the black-and-white north arrow/scale. This possible post was recovered on the last day of the Cornell University project and it was not excavated. Although project members felt this was likely to be a Seneca-era post because of the dark soil color, its location in line with other probable Seneca-era posts, and its strong circular shape at subsoil surface, it is not certain that this represents a cultural feature. If this is a Seneca-era feature, its position relative to other posts in the Possible Palisade Area trench suggests that the fortification line curved.
