- Description:
- This photograph shows the cross-section of a large outdoor firepit (Feature 6) at the White Springs site, as seen in the south wall of Test Unit 20 Extension. The upper, slightly lighter, portion of the profile in the wall is plow-mixed soil. The lower, slightly darker and V-shaped portion, is the preserved outline of the firepit feature. The floor of the unit in the foreground shows non-cultural yellowish subsoil; the dug-out portion represents the shape of the bottom of Feature 6 after cultural soil was scooped out.
