This photograph shows a cross-section of the remnants of a large Seneca post (Post Mold 30) that acted as the southwest main interior support for the shot longhouse (Structure 1) at the Townley-Read site. The photograph was taken after the south half of the post mold had been excavated. The image shows several layers of different-colored soil, which may represent filling around the post, post replacement episodes, or multiple instances of surrounding soil washing into the cavity left after the post was pulled out or rotted in place.
