- See Saltzman's reply of November 17, 1937. One of a number of letters in Yiddish from Paris, New York, and Poland pertaining to the founding of YKUF (IKUF) as an organization. Translated Summary: Letter acknowledges receipt of a recent letter and of $150. Says they have been busy preparing the report of the [culture] "congress" [that is, the meeting of what will become the IKUF/YKUF] and will be sending 1000 copies to the U.S. with H. Leivick. Requests more money, and communication, and promises more prompt and regular communication from their end, now that the work of putting the book together is complete.
- Notes:
- Disambiguation: this is not the Congress for Jewish Culture.
The Jewish People’s Fraternal Order was the largest ‘national’ section of the International Workers Order (IWO) which focused on cultural awareness and celebration, mutual support especially in health insurance coverage, and anti-fascist activities. The IWO also gave particular emphasis to supporting the rights and interests of African Americans.
