This is a tarso-metatarsus of a passenger pigeon. The tarso-metatarsus is a bone unique to birds, similar to ankle and foot bones in mammals. The passenger pigeon became officially extinct in the early part of the 20th century. Stephen Cox Thomas, Archaeologist
