Manuscript volume from the personal diaries of Narushima Ryūhoku the seven volumes comprising the diaries were written when he was 18-28 years old. Each volume is hand-bound and personally inscribed, with entries in literary Chinese (kanbun) summarizing the events of the day. Each of the first six volumes covers exactly one calendar year and is consecutively numbered (v. 1-5, 7). The final volume, unnumbered and bearing a different title, is slightly later, crosses calendar years, and is more sporadically and brusquely written.
