Political - Description:
- First Steps. 8 pages. Magazine published by class B-2, of the 2nd Harlem Arbeter Ring (Workmen's Circle) school. Translated Summary: Handwritten and reproduced with mimeographs, in contrast to school magazines that are printed and have ads. Perhaps the small and inexpensive format is because it is the work of an individual class rather than of a school as a whole. The front cover, however, is professionally printed. Children's writing including the following titles: A Beautiful Moonlit Night. A Stormy Night in the Camps. Snow. The Cripple. When the Dead Become Alive. Our School. [illegible] to the Parents. Be Clever and Guess: What is This? One Hundred Years from Now. A Joke.
- Notes:
- The Jewish People’s Fraternal Order was the largest ‘national’ section of the International Workers Order (IWO) which focused on cultural awareness and celebration, mutual support especially in health insurance coverage, and anti-fascist activities. The IWO also gave particular emphasis to supporting the rights and interests of African Americans. Documents include language and representations which comprise the historical record and should not be interpreted to mean that Cornell University or its staff endorse or approve of negative representations or stereotypes presented.
