Insurance - Description:
- Translated Summary. In order to fulfill the role the Ordn has assigned us, we will be founding a school to offer a course of ten lectures on the problems of social security, legislation, and related matters, to begin on February 4th. The schedule of specific lectures and times is given. Lecturers include Morris Enkel, Max Blum [Bloom?], Jerry Kalman, Lester Beberfall, and Esther Posner. The school will be held in the Brighton Center, 3200 Coney Island Avenue. Postscript describes an upcoming trip to the children's museum where a film will be shown. The trip is under the auspices of the women's clubs, the children's branches and the Ordn schools (shule). Joe Shavelson, Clara Lemlich Shavelson's husband, is district secretary for the West End.
- Notes:
- Documents organizational antecedents to the Emma Lazarus Division, founded in 1944 by the Women's Division of the Jewish People's Fraternal Order of the International Workers Order (IWO). The Division eventually became the Emma Lazarus Federation of Jewish Women's Clubs (ELF)
The Jewish People’s Fraternal Order was the largest ‘national’ section of the International Workers Order (IWO) which focused on cultural awareness and celebration, mutual support especially in health insurance coverage, and anti-fascist activities. The IWO also gave particular emphasis to supporting the rights and interests of African Americans.
