Publishing - Description:
- 3 pages. Editorial by Nahum Goldmann in a section of the Congress Bulletin from Montreal discussing the importance of the upcoming Second Session of the World Jewish Congress in May 1948. The discussion of the need for unity and of inclusion, hints at but does not directly address tensions around the issue of inclusion/exclusion of the JPFO in addressing the Cold War. The situation in the Canadian Jewish Congress may have been different. Directly notes impact of European genocide and calls for support for a world Jewish organization that deals with issues of concern to Diaspora communities as well as Palestine (Israel). The World Jewish Congress is founded in 1936.
- Notes:
- The Jewish People’s Fraternal Order was the largest ‘national’ section of the International Workers Order (IWO) which focused on cultural awareness and celebration, mutual support especially in health insurance coverage, and anti-fascist activities. The IWO also gave particular emphasis to supporting the rights and interests of African Americans. Documents include language and representations which comprise the historical record and should not be interpreted to mean that Cornell University or its staff endorse or approve of negative representations or stereotypes presented.
