Postwar Jewish Unity - Description:
- Headings are in English, Yiddish, Hebrew, Spanish and French, in that order. The document lists the names of World Jewish Congress organizations or affiliates in their languages, for their countries and regions. Europe and Latin America are regions with their own regional councils. While there are centralized national institutions, "There are some countries where the Jewry is not yet united in a central body..." Shanghai China for instance has three listed affiliates; there are also "Relief" organizations listed as affiliates. The list of affiliates in Central and Eastern Europe shows post-War changes.
- Notes:
- The Jewish People’s Fraternal Order was the largest ‘national’ section of the International Workers Order (IWO) which focused on cultural awareness and celebration, mutual support especially in health insurance coverage, and anti-fascist activities. The IWO also gave particular emphasis to supporting the rights and interests of African Americans. Documents include language and representations which comprise the historical record and should not be interpreted to mean that Cornell University or its staff endorse or approve of negative representations or stereotypes presented.
