Soviet Union - Description:
- 8 pages. Notes on the case of Ethel and Julius Rosenberg, and Morton Sobell, who were convicted of conspiracy to violate the 1917 Espionage Act on behalf of the Soviet Union. The notes focus inter alia on the question of whether atomic secrets per se could have been passed on given the lack of requisite scientific expertise of those involved. Analyzes the knowledge and testimony of those convicted as well as of the unindicted "co-conspirators" and those who received light sentences in return for testifying. The notes were written after the Rosenbergs were sentenced to death on April 5, 1951 but before their execution on June 19, 1953.
- Notes:
- The notes may have been written for the legal team and/or for political organizing
The Jewish People’s Fraternal Order was the largest ‘national’ section of the International Workers Order (IWO) which focused on cultural awareness and celebration, mutual support especially in health insurance coverage, and anti-fascist activities. The IWO also gave particular emphasis to supporting the rights and interests of African Americans.
