- 2 pages. Flier advertising rentals for three 16mm films: Marcel Pagnol's "The Prize" (1950, a French comedy), "No Resting Place" (1951; about a murder, directed by Paul Rotha), and "The Trial" (1948, directed by G. W. Pabst). The third film is about a blood libel "in a small Hungarian village," and the flyer says it is set in 1889, though it appears to be based on a famous incident and trial in a Hungarian village, the Tiszaeszlár Blood Libel, that took place between 1882 and 1883. On the flier next to the ad for "The Trial" are penciled notes about the 1937 Warner Brothers film "Zola," including "Dreyfus, Joseph Schild[kraut],” “90 min. $45,” “Want to show it to Jewish Youth Institute!" and "Zola. 50 yrs of death."
- Notes:
- The Jewish People’s Fraternal Order was the largest ‘national’ section of the International Workers Order (IWO) which focused on cultural awareness and celebration, mutual support especially in health insurance coverage, and anti-fascist activities. The IWO also gave particular emphasis to supporting the rights and interests of African Americans. Documents include language and representations which comprise the historical record and should not be interpreted to mean that Cornell University or its staff endorse or approve of negative representations or stereotypes presented.
