World War II Holocaust - Description:
- Warsaw Ghetto Monument. Translated Summary: CKŻP announces plans to erect a heroic monument (denkmahl) the following year on the razed site of the Warsaw Ghetto to commemorate the fifth anniversary of the uprising, which will be April 19, 1948. The monument to the Ghetto's heros will be created by sculptor Nathan Rapoport. Letter asks for immediate support and participation in the memorial project which is envisioned as encompassing Jews worldwide as well as those living in Poland. Other signatories in addition to Berman, Lazebnik and Bitter are Professor Yosef (Josef) Sak, Salo Fiszgrund, Inzh Rosenman, Hersh Smolar, and Dr. Herman Parnas.
- Notes:
- Dr. Berman was forced out of the CKŻP in 1949.
The Jewish People’s Fraternal Order was the largest ‘national’ section of the International Workers Order (IWO) which focused on cultural awareness and celebration, mutual support especially in health insurance coverage, and anti-fascist activities. The IWO also gave particular emphasis to supporting the rights and interests of African Americans.
