War Refugees and Rescue - Description:
- 6 pages. Rymer's report describes situation with regard to DP camps. Decries repatriation and refugee plans that don't distinguish "between tools and victims of fascism" in regard to Jews. Discusses Polish "Anders Army" as part of postWar fascism. Discusses political implications of a general loosening of U.S. immigration quotas and strongly advocates working with the Federation of Polish Jews to get quotas specifically lifted for Jewish DPs. A penciled note on the back page reads, "Rayski Paris. Adoption plan delayed, discredited, must receive adoption folders immediately. G. Sandler."
- Notes:
- The Jewish People’s Fraternal Order was the largest ‘national’ section of the International Workers Order (IWO) which focused on cultural awareness and celebration, mutual support especially in health insurance coverage, and anti-fascist activities. The IWO also gave particular emphasis to supporting the rights and interests of African Americans. Documents include language and representations which comprise the historical record and should not be interpreted to mean that Cornell University or its staff endorse or approve of negative representations or stereotypes presented.
