- Translated Summary: Cable confirms that the promised $15,000 from Amalgamated Bank is sent and that the JPFO is making an even larger funding commitment in response to their appeal for a Jewish Orphan's Home in Poland. Confirms purchase of Linotype typesetting magazines for Nai Lebn [Dos Naje Leben, Naye Lebn] press and the shipment of clothes. Expresses enthusiasm for the expansion of new Jewish life in Poland. Pencilled in names are Zelicki (Zelitsky), spelled here as Zelitzki; and Zammerstein who is Dr. Emil Sommerstein (Zamerstein). The appeal for aid was issued by both. Cable exists in English and Polish (see document with JPFO's English translation).
- Notes:
- The material from Poland shows post-war conditions and JPFO fund raising and relief efforts. See previous correspondence on the topics referenced in the cable.
The Jewish People’s Fraternal Order was the largest ‘national’ section of the International Workers Order (IWO) which focused on cultural awareness and celebration, mutual support especially in health insurance coverage, and anti-fascist activities. The IWO also gave particular emphasis to supporting the rights and interests of African Americans.
