Insurance - Description:
- 2 pages. Court order issued by the Supreme Court of New York, in which the New York State Insurance Department and the International Workers Order Policyholder Committee as well as the I.W.O. and the Cemetery Department stipulate that the Cemetery Department's records and books will be delivered to the Insurance Superintendent for review. A determination will then be made as to whether they are, or are not, I.W.O. records as per the August 24, 1951 proceeding referred to here. If so, the Superintendent retains custody of the assets and jointly supervises them along with other I.W.O. assets. Neither the I.W.O. nor the Cemetery Department waives its rights to assert that the Cemetery Department is an independent legal entity. Legal decision is signed with the initials H.C.G. (Supreme Court Judge Henry Clay Greenberg). Peter Shipka signs for the I.W.O., Nahum Polak for the Cemetery Department, and William Karlin for the New York State Insurance Department. Document lists names of those on the I.W.O. Policyholder Committee and their lawyers. William Karlin is the Examiner from the New York State Insurance Department office installed at I.W.O. headquarters to control managing its assets and activities.

The Jewish People’s Fraternal Order was the largest ‘national’ section of the International Workers Order (IWO) which focused on cultural awareness and celebration, mutual support especially in health insurance coverage, and anti-fascist activities. The IWO also gave particular emphasis to supporting the rights and interests of African Americans.
