Insurance - Description:
- In Yiddish. 2 pages. On new IWO Cemetery Department, Inc. letterhead. Translated Summary: There's been a change in the agreement between the Ordn and the Cemetery Department regarding the collection of dues. From now on the accounting for the Ordn dues will be separated. Starting in April, dues will not include cemetery benefits or school levies. These are now being itemized separately. A list of prices for cemetery fees, funeral expenses, and school fees, separately and combined follows. [Before the IWO is shut down, the Cemetery Department takes steps to be seen as a separate legal organization to preclude being closed down.]
- Notes:
- The campaign to shut down the IWO ensued once it was put on the Attorney General's Subversive Organizations List in November 1947; the list (aka the Red List) was published in March 1948.
The Jewish People’s Fraternal Order was the largest ‘national’ section of the International Workers Order (IWO) which focused on cultural awareness and celebration, mutual support especially in health insurance coverage, and anti-fascist activities. The IWO also gave particular emphasis to supporting the rights and interests of African Americans.
