Description:
Letter from Louis Lipsky to All Delegates of the American Jewish Conference regarding major issues with the plan to reconsitute itself in 1948 as the American Jewish Assembly. Also cites the urgency of the situation with the British Mandate in Palestine in regard to U.S. policy and its backing the implementation of the U.N. Security Council resolution on partition. The letterhead lists Rubin Saltzman as serving on the Conference's Interim Committee.
Notes:
The Jewish People’s Fraternal Order was the largest ‘national’ section of the International Workers Order (IWO) which focused on cultural awareness and celebration, mutual support especially in health insurance coverage, and anti-fascist activities. The IWO also gave particular emphasis to supporting the rights and interests of African Americans. Documents include language and representations which comprise the historical record and should not be interpreted to mean that Cornell University or its staff endorse or approve of negative representations or stereotypes presented.
