Cold War - Description:
- 3 pages. Minutes of the November 1947 meeting of the Interim Committee of the American Jewish Conference held at the Hotel Pennsylvania, marked Confidential. Report on work with the Jewish Agency in Palestine to advocate with U.S. government figures. Report explaining that the Conference and ten other Jewish groups submitted a joint memorandum asking to be included in treaty negotiations with Austria. Report on work with General Clay in the American Zone on promulgation of "Restitution Law" and having the Jewish Restitution Commission be named heir to heirless Jewish property. The Commission is made up of the Joint Distribution Committee, the Jewish Agency in Palestine, and the Jewish Cultural Reconstruction Commission. Discussion of planning for upcoming conference and plenary sessions.
- Notes:
- The Jewish People’s Fraternal Order was the largest ‘national’ section of the International Workers Order (IWO) which focused on cultural awareness and celebration, mutual support especially in health insurance coverage, and anti-fascist activities. The IWO also gave particular emphasis to supporting the rights and interests of African Americans. Documents include language and representations which comprise the historical record and should not be interpreted to mean that Cornell University or its staff endorse or approve of negative representations or stereotypes presented.
