- In Yiddish. Two poems by Shifre Vays (Shifra Weiss). See cover letter to Rubin Saltzman. The first verse of My Torn-Out Heart, freely translated by David Forman as follows: "My torn-out heart
Where did you go? If to the walls of the Warsaw Ghetto
Give them my hands to clasp
And kiss their eyes
Take the lead from their skies
Promise them, this too will pass." A poem with this title is included in Shifre Weiss' 1953 volume of selected poetry, "Tsum Morgendikn Morgn" - Notes:
- The Jewish People’s Fraternal Order was the largest ‘national’ section of the International Workers Order (IWO) which focused on cultural awareness and celebration, mutual support especially in health insurance coverage, and anti-fascist activities. The IWO also gave particular emphasis to supporting the rights and interests of African Americans. Documents include language and representations which comprise the historical record and should not be interpreted to mean that Cornell University or its staff endorse or approve of negative representations or stereotypes presented.
