Jewish Anti-Fascist Committee of the USSR (JAFC) - Description:
- In Yiddish. Date stamped. Zinger's address is printed below his verse. Songsheet. One song is by Chaim Zinger, a strange doggerel titled "Hitler's defeat", the other which is on the left side, is by Yosl Cutler (Yosel Kutler). This appears to have been included with the letter of Sept 17, though it was written earlier. Hitler's Defeat seems written as part of the campaign to purchase tanks for the Red Army in response to the appeal of the Jewish Anti-Fascist Committee, and the request for poems by the Jewish-American Section of the I.W.O.
- Notes:
- The Jewish People’s Fraternal Order was the largest ‘national’ section of the International Workers Order (IWO) which focused on cultural awareness and celebration, mutual support especially in health insurance coverage, and anti-fascist activities. The IWO also gave particular emphasis to supporting the rights and interests of African Americans. Documents include language and representations which comprise the historical record and should not be interpreted to mean that Cornell University or its staff endorse or approve of negative representations or stereotypes presented.
