Description:
Response to call for tank poems [in support of the Jewish Anti-Fascist Committee's call for purchasing tanks]. Translated Summary: Enclosing a poem by a friend in response to the call for a tank company. I do not know what you will think, or whether you will print it. I told him to shorten it, but he said he would not. He is a very sick man and it is not good to argue with him. Signature difficult to decipher. Perhaps Merry (or Mary?) Merlin, or Meklin.
Notes:
The Jewish People’s Fraternal Order was the largest ‘national’ section of the International Workers Order (IWO) which focused on cultural awareness and celebration, mutual support especially in health insurance coverage, and anti-fascist activities. The IWO also gave particular emphasis to supporting the rights and interests of African Americans. Documents include language and representations which comprise the historical record and should not be interpreted to mean that Cornell University or its staff endorse or approve of negative representations or stereotypes presented.
