Postwar Order and Social Contract - Description:
- Jewish Folk Chorus. Bilingual program with concert and pageant. Translated Summary: Text of narration is given in both English and Yiddish, while the songs themselves are in Yiddish. The pageant is titled: "A Singing People Lives Forever: Fifty Years of Jewish Life Mirrored in Folklore and Song." Describes Jewish misery in Czarist Russian and the rise of the new "builder" who "takes part in the struggle for freedom and will eventually help engineer a new social order." Notes are by "Mes Repook" ["Sam Cooper" backwards.] Cross-outs in Yiddish version appear to mark abridgement of program. Unknown whether these notes were made for this or a subsequent performance. Folk and other music, much of it ideological such as HaTikvah and the "Bidjaner Leed" (Song) as well as the "Partisanen Leed" which commemorates the Warsaw Ghetto.
- Notes:
- The Jewish People’s Fraternal Order was the largest ‘national’ section of the International Workers Order (IWO) which focused on cultural awareness and celebration, mutual support especially in health insurance coverage, and anti-fascist activities. The IWO also gave particular emphasis to supporting the rights and interests of African Americans.
