Postwar Jewish Culture- U.S. - Description:
- In Yiddish. 4 pages. Translated Summary: This is the first of a planned bi-monthly bulletin, with concrete plans for cultural work, and recommendations for how to accomplish it. Contains a calendar of cultural events for the year 1947-1948. Announces a concert tour [classical music quartet], new books [including Bella Chagall's "First Encounter"], and a theater group, "The Jewish Theater Ensemble". Stresses the importance of recruiting children into the Ordn schools. Announces a [U.S.] Culture Congress, beginning October 31.
- Notes:
- The Jewish People’s Fraternal Order was the largest ‘national’ section of the International Workers Order (IWO) which focused on cultural awareness and celebration, mutual support especially in health insurance coverage, and anti-fascist activities. The IWO also gave particular emphasis to supporting the rights and interests of African Americans. Documents include language and representations which comprise the historical record and should not be interpreted to mean that Cornell University or its staff endorse or approve of negative representations or stereotypes presented.
