Fellow Travellers - Description:
- Translated Summary: Received your letter and packet of books via Brother Rontsh. Will see that they are immediately shipped to the Jewish Anti-Fascist Committee in Moscow. Will publish your wife's [Bella Chagall's] second book with pleasure. Have in mind to see you before the World Congress sends me as a representative [or messenger, delegate] to Poland. Plan also to visit France and the Soviet Union. Note: Marc Chagall first writes a handwritten letter earlier in January with which he sends "Belatchke's" [his nickname for Bella Chagall] books, hoping Saltzman can get them to the Jewish Anti-Fascist Committee (JFAC) in Moscow.
- Notes:
- Bella Chagall's memoir gets published as 1947 as Di Ershte Bagengish (My First Encounter). It was illustrated by her husband Marc Chagall and published in 1947 by the Book League of the Jewish Peoples Fraternal Order, New York (1947).
The Jewish People’s Fraternal Order was the largest ‘national’ section of the International Workers Order (IWO) which focused on cultural awareness and celebration, mutual support especially in health insurance coverage, and anti-fascist activities. The IWO also gave particular emphasis to supporting the rights and interests of African Americans.
