Postwar Order and Social Contract - Description:
- Letter from Rubin Saltzman to Sholem Asch. Begins, "Just received a letter from [Paul] Novick, from Moscow." Translated Summary: Passes along Novick's report of meeting with David Bergelson, who had read Asch's pieces in the Morgn Freiheit (Frayhayt) ("Hitler's Birthday" and others), and praised Asch as the greatest Yiddish writer. Greetings also from [Solomon] Mikhoels and [Itzik] Feffer. Inquires after Asch's health, and whether and when he might come into the city. Would like to meet and talk.
- Notes:
- The Jewish People’s Fraternal Order was the largest ‘national’ section of the International Workers Order (IWO) which focused on cultural awareness and celebration, mutual support especially in health insurance coverage, and anti-fascist activities. The IWO also gave particular emphasis to supporting the rights and interests of African Americans.
