Postwar Order and Social Contract - Description:
- 2 pages. Invitation and program for a Negro History Week event at the IWO Center, 2075 86th Street in Brooklyn. Other lodge activities include a jazz band in March at the JCH (Jewish Community House) in Bensonhurst, Brooklyn and the Emma Lazarus Division offering a pre-K class. Excerpts from Albert E. Kahn's lecture on "Negroes and Jews" are printed on page 2 of the brochure. Lodge 817, which is mainly Jewish, is holding a program jointly with a new African American lodge: the speaker is Maud Jett, and the congregation of Mt. Zion Baptist Church is invited.
- Notes:
- Page 2 specifies that it is 1946
The Jewish People’s Fraternal Order was the largest ‘national’ section of the International Workers Order (IWO) which focused on cultural awareness and celebration, mutual support especially in health insurance coverage, and anti-fascist activities. The IWO also gave particular emphasis to supporting the rights and interests of African Americans.
