Jason attempts to put to sleep the serpent gauarding the golden fleece. The snake is coiled around a column at the base of which is a ram and on top of which is a bird. Winckelmann speculates that this is the bird which was the main ingredient in the love potion that Venus gave to Jason to seduce Medea.
