Premium Emerald - Subject:
- Mercury (Roman deity)
Hermes (Greek deity) - Description:
- A figure with a dog or sheep head, sitting on a rock, their legs are very thick and may be covered with fur, on the right their is a small Victory with wings holding four ears of corn? The catalogue says that this is Mercury with a dog's head, as the dog was one of his symbols as protectors of shepherds. I am not so sure this is the case, as the legs look very weird and this may instead be something else, like a satyr. Is this Mercury?
