Pictorial
Deception/Distortion - Measurement:
- 41 x 51 (centimeters, height x width)
- Notes:
- This is a pictorial tourist map of Hamburg, Germany, published in 1947. Hamburg had been very heavily damaged by allied bombing in the war, and much of the city was not rebuilt for decades. Many of the 50 tourist "sites" identified on this map are simply rail stops and streets; as to the others, it's not clear exactly what could be seen and visited in 1947. One site prominently featured, with an image of a celebrating sailor, is St. Pauli - Reeperbahn, Hamburg's famous red light district.
The collection includes three European posters issued in the period shortly after World War II as part of efforts to rebuild tourism. ID #2034, France (1947); ID #2107, Austria (1952); ID #2250, Hamburg (Germany) Tour Map (1947).
