- An innocent child and Satan contending for the world, an image by James Montgomery Flagg. Perhaps a commentary on the 1908 Presidential election. At the time this issue was published, the Republicans had selected Taft as their candidate, and the Democrats (for the third time) William Jennings Bryan. Life editorialized (p.90) that "At present," the Democratic party "represents little that is of value to national government except an alternative to be considered and avoided, and the possibility of regeneration."
