- This advertisement reproduces an endorsement from Jagat Jit Singh, the Maharajah de Kapurthala ("I find the Melachrino cigarettes extraordinarily good") and a large photo of the Maharajah on a bold map of India. The Maharajah is described as "Head of one of the greatest ruling houses in Indian, society leader, man of fashion, arbiter elegantiarum." According to the late Maharajah's tailors, he was "the longest serving Maharaja in the history of the British Raj," as well as "one of the most widely travelled kings of his generation," three times the Indian representative to the League of Nations and the only Indian ruler at the Conference of Versailles. https://henrypoole.com/hall_of_fame/hh-raja-kapurthala/, accessed February 14, 2016. "His liberal upbringing under the tutelage of English academics made the Raja particularly close to his British overlords and led to a progressive reign that saw audacious building projects and a largely contented, peaceful populace." Ibid. And "despite his relatively late marriage to a European dolly bird" - his sixth wife, who committed suicide dramatically by jumping off the Qutub Minar in Delhi - we are assured that "the Maharajah was no playboy." Ibid.
