- Notes:
- A contemporary world map using an equal-area projection; note the comparative size of the U.S. and Africa. At the time this map was published, The Independent was a generally left-leaning paper. It used its front page to focus on particular causes, opposing the 2003 invasion of Iraq, urging contributions to victims of the 2005 Kashmir earthquake, and supported the Green Party candidate for Lord Mayor of London in 2008. The graphs surrounding this map are heavily focused on world population, but two prominent graphs on the upper right detail the "10 Richest Territories" and the "10 Poorest Territories."
For information regarding equal-area projections and the Peters Projection controversy, see Notes for ID #1406.01, Hobo-Dyer Equal Area Projection.
