- Notes:
- This map was published by the Chicago Tribune in March 1945; it supported morale on the home front as America waited for D-Day. The map is a reproduction of an exuberant promotional map for the Germany of 1936, with a commentary explaining that "Today, many of the German cities which are depicted upon the map are in ruins as a result of Allied bombings. This is particularly true of Berlin, Hamburg, Mainz, and others, which have been repeatedly blasted from the air." Note that everywhere the Nazi flag was illustrated on the originals from 1936, it has been removed on this reproduction.
For two slightly different versions of the originals, see Reimer, Germany, the Beautiful Travel Country, ID #1250, #2047.
