Spanish-American War - Measurement:

- Notes:
- A cartoon map from Judge Magazine supporting the Spanish-American War. Uncle Sam launches a barrage from the U.S. that shows as patriotic fireworks - and routes the Spanish in Cuba. One of those fleeing from the attack is General Valeriano Weyler, installed by the Spanish as Governor of Cuba in 1896 with the mission of suppressing the War of Independence. Weyler established a series of "reconcentration camps" in which thousands died from disease and starvation, earning him the epithet "Butcher." At the end of 1897, amid the failure of his policies, Weyler was removed and replaced by General Ramon Blanco (also seen fleeing the U.S. "Shower of Patriotism"). Foner 1972, 77, 110-118, 129.
