A broadside attacking the role of the University of California in supporting military programs at the time of the Vietnamese War. The buildings on the Berkeley campus involved in military programs are highlighted, blue for those supporting Department of Defense contracts, red for Atomic Energy Commission contracts. The long table at the right is keyed to the map of buildings, locating the relevant academic departments and listing for each the amount of the military contract and the agency involved (DOD or AEC). The total amounts are large: $11 million of on-campus contracts and more than $250 million more at affiliated Livermore and Los Alamos Laboratories. The anti-war message is reinforced by the overlaid images: an oddly-equipped soldier, a fighter jet and a tank, injured and suffering Vietnamese children - and an ominous, red mushroom cloud.
The date is estimated.
For a later, somewhat similar map of defense contractors in the area, see ID #2569, "Surprises Await You in San Francisco's Financial District" (1982).
