This early Cold War map emphasizes the Soviet Union's "Colonial Problem." The U.S.S.R is shown as a massive, single block of countries in red. In the rest of the world, former colonies have been granted independence (e.g., The Philippines; Burma; mandated portions of Syria and Trans-Jordan), or are "moving towards" independence (India), or revolting against colonial domination (French Indochina), or have moved from colonial rule to "Trusteeship" (African states).
