This map uses several measures to illustrate the concentration of German descendants, particularly in the east, the upper midwest and Texas.
German-Americans were among those who opposed entry of the U.S. into World War I (see, e.g., ID #1192 and Subjects > World War I), and there was an active German effort in the late 1930s to discourage U.S. participation in the growing war in Europe (see, e.g., see, e.g., ID ##1302.01-.07, ID #2059, ID #2273).
