A postcard looking to the recovery of San Francisco from the devastating 1906 earthquake and fire. "Heavy lines show extent of the burned district. Area about four square miles. Property loss $300,000,000" (about 8 billion current dollars). The sad face of a woman looks east from the waterfront, where there is a "line of wharves untouched." Views across the top show the "Golden Gate at Sunset" in the west and "Sunrise" in the east. An unknown poem or hymn completes the picture: "Oh lift thine eyes my Loved One/And lean upon His breast/Trusting Him supremely/Who doeth all things best."
