- Description:
- In Yiddish. A story in 9 pages. Rubin Saltzman's observations while walking in Paris. Materials people had scrapped together for shoes. The view from the Eiffel Tower showing Paris infrastructure almost untouched by the war. Signs on houses, on parks, etc, stating that in this spot such and such a grizzly event took place, or so-and-so died, having given his life to liberate France. Among the names were Jewish ones. Many placards had flowers by them, many wilted, but some fresh. One sign on the bridge over the river Seine particularly well cared for, with daily fresh flowers. Saltzman tries to learn who was killed and who took such loving care of the monument.
- Notes:
- The Jewish People’s Fraternal Order was the largest ‘national’ section of the International Workers Order (IWO) which focused on cultural awareness and celebration, mutual support especially in health insurance coverage, and anti-fascist activities. The IWO also gave particular emphasis to supporting the rights and interests of African Americans.
