World Jewish Congress - Description:
- In Yiddish. Translated Summary: Reply from Saltzman to March 21 letter from Lazebnik. Subject headings, repeated point-by-point by Saltzman from Lazebnik's letter are: Kultur-Baratung (Cultural 'Council'); "Joint"; 19th of April; World Jewish Congress. Saltzman is basically in concord with the information and instructions coming out of Poland. Says he is happy to hear that the Culture Congress (World Congress for Jewish Culture) will go on as scheduled and awaits more news. Has a delegation ready to present their demands to the "Joint". Lists who will be sent from America for the 19th of April. The second member of the three will also be present at IKUF (YKUF) and at the unveiling of the [Warsaw Ghetto] monument. When the Jewish World Congress meets, the Ordn will have a delegate there. It will not be Saltzman, for whom it would be physically too difficult. The rest of the letter deals with book requests. [Unclear where the books are going: for schools in Lower Silesia? For sale?), and with a book Lazebnik wanted (Paul) Novick to read for possible publication in Morgn Freiheit (Frayhayt).]
- Notes:
- The Jewish People’s Fraternal Order was the largest ‘national’ section of the International Workers Order (IWO) which focused on cultural awareness and celebration, mutual support especially in health insurance coverage, and anti-fascist activities. The IWO also gave particular emphasis to supporting the rights and interests of African Americans.
