Bilingualism - Description:
- 2 pages. In English and Yiddish. Translated Summary: Bilingual fundraising appeal letter that requests food parcels or money from previous donors [to the Andrésy orphanage] to help "the children whose parents have been shot or deported." Also announces that the Committee will be holding a fair to raise money for these children. [Undated, and unaddressed (presumably, a form letter sent out to multiple recipients). Stamped as received [by the JPFO] on January 26, 1949.
- Notes:
- The Jewish People’s Fraternal Order was the largest ‘national’ section of the International Workers Order (IWO) which focused on cultural awareness and celebration, mutual support especially in health insurance coverage, and anti-fascist activities. The IWO also gave particular emphasis to supporting the rights and interests of African Americans. Documents include language and representations which comprise the historical record and should not be interpreted to mean that Cornell University or its staff endorse or approve of negative representations or stereotypes presented.
