- This is a cast of a Roman copy of a statue of Aphrodite attributed to the fifth century sculptor Alkamenes, known as the Leaning Aphrodite or Aphrodite in the Gardens. In this cast, the statue has been restored as the muse Euterpe, as the figure was identified in the 19th century. The original statue, in the Louvre, is missing its head and the lower parts of its arms. Here, the figure stands placing her weight on her right leg and crossing her bent left leg in front of her right. She leans against a pillar that stands to her left. Her belted garment has slipped to reveal her left shoulder and falls in folds to the ground. She holds a flute in her raised right hand and in her lowered left. Her head is turned towards her right and she looks ahead. Her wavy hair is twisted up and into a bun low on the back of her head.
