- Description:
- This is a cast of a Roman marble relief panel showing Herakles and the Kerynian hind housed in the British Museum. Here, Herakles has captured the deer by her golden antlers and will take her to Eurystheus in completion of his third labor (see Apollod. 2.5.3). The muscular, barrel-chested, and thick-necked hero is shown in profile with a pointy beard and short hair with globular curls. He stands subduing the animal by placing his bent left leg on her back and holding her head back by the antlers. This panel was probably one in a series depicting the labors of Herakles. The object, apparently no. 93 in the Sage Catalog, is placed in the "Berlin Museums", probably in error.
