- Description:
- This is a cast of a colossal bust of Julius Caesar held in Naples. The leader turns his head to his right and looks ahead calmly with heavy-lidded, slightly bulging eyes and closed lips. His brow is furrowed and the eyebrows are well-articulated. Curved locks of hair frame the dictator's face. The crown of his head is relatively broad. Caesar is shown here in middle age, as evidenced by wrinkles around the eyes, sagging flesh at the cheeks, and the receding hairline. The bust ends well before the shoulders and lacks anatomical features of the upper chest. The original retains restorations to the nose, eyebrows, back of the head, and ears, as seen in this cast. In addition, the bust below the neck is modern.
