- Description:
- This is a partial cast of a fragment of architectural sculpture of green marble from the facade of the so-called Treasury of Atreus at Mycenae, a tholos tomb dated to ca. 1250 BCE. The fragment from which this cast was taken is housed in the British Museum. The relief sculpture is contained in two registers and is restored above the tomb's door lintel. On the top register, running spirals are bordered along top and bottom by narrow moldings. Below is a row of plain discs that are flattened along their tops and sides. This piece perhaps once belonged to the architectural cast collection originally housed in Lincoln Hall.
