- Description:
- A horseman (fig. 100), in profile, wears a chiton and chlamys, holds his horse's reins, and looks solemnly ahead (to viewer's left). His horse rears up slightly as it gallops, lifting its head towards the edge of the frame. The horseman's torso is obscured by the horse galloping behind him, whose head is bent towards the ground. Only the hands, left leg, and drapery are visible of the rider (fig. 101) of this second horse. The foreparts of a third horse, along with the left foot and right forearm of its rider (fig. 102), are foregrounded at the right end of the block, covering much of the body of the second horse. The fragment of the original frieze block containing the head and upper body of fig. 101 and the head and neck of the horse ridden by fig. 102 is not included with this cast.
